A unique way to boost oral health

The healthy oral microbiota is dominated by streptococci

The oral cavity is host to many different bacterial species and certain species belonging to the genus Streptococcus are dominating and associated with a healthy microbiota. During oral disease such as cavities and gum disease the composition of the oral microbiota changes and disease promoting bacteria start to dominate.

Daily oral care is important in preventing bacteria from causing oral disease. However, products such as mouthwashes may have a negative impact on the composition of the oral microbiota. Promoting a healthy microbiota with good bacteria is key for upper respiratory tract health as well as healthy teeth, gums, and fresh breath.

Bacteria of the same species can have different properties

Streptococcus salivarius is a natural and common beneficial bacterial species that is an important part of the oral microbiota. In recent years it has become evident that bacteria can possess different properties even though they are the same species. Although everyone has Streptococcus salivarius only very few people have the beneficial BLIS K12™ and BLIS M18™. These two specific strains of Streptococcus salivarius, possess unique properties. Backed by multiple clinical studies these strains have been shown to support oral health in several different ways:
