Probi’s solution for iron absorption is on a winning streak, earning global acclaim for addressing a widespread health need. The recognition across three distinct regions during 2025 underlines the worldwide need for effective, well-tolerated iron supplementation.
Probi’s innovative concept for enhancing iron absorption, a microbiome-based solution targeting a critical health issue particularly affecting women, has won the 2025 NutraIngredients-Asia Award in the category Innovation in Women’s Health. The award was presented during a live ceremony in Bangkok on the 17th of September.
This marks Probi’s third NutraIngredients Award win within the same category in 2025, following honors earlier this year in both Europe and North America.
“We’re proud that this innovation is now being recognized in Asia, where iron deficiency continues to impact millions of women. This award highlights both the relevance of our solution in the region and our commitment to advancing women’s health,” said Karen Ong, Head of Asia-Pacific at Probi.
“To be recognized across three continents in a single year is an incredible achievement. This award reinforces both the global relevance of iron deficiency and the strength of our solution in addressing it through a clinically backed biotic innovation”, said Martina Pettersson, Global Marketing Director at Probi.
An innovative approach to a global health issue
Probi’s concept is composed of its proprietary probiotic strain, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 299v (LP299V®), which when combined with iron acts to increase the absorption of iron and reduce the gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with traditional iron supplements.
Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional disorders globally. According to the World Health Organization, more than 30% of women of reproductive age worldwide suffer from anemia*, with significantly higher prevalence in regions across Asia**.
“As the most clinically studied L. plantarum strain globally, LP299V is known for its GI-supporting properties, but since the first clinical study in 2006 we have also known it has a unique capacity to increase the absorption of iron. We’re so proud to see our scientific work being recognized and validated again. This is truly a biotic solution that can contribute to improved health outcomes for women globally”, said Caroline Montelius, Department Manager Global Scientific Affairs at Probi.
